National Mission on Libraries: (NML)
- Formulated in 2012
- By Union Ministry of Culture.
- Launched officially on 2014 (3, February)
- By president Pranab Mukherjee. (12th Five-year Plan)
- Recommended by National Knowledge Commission (NKC)
The scheme consists of four main objectives:
- Creation of National Virtual Library of India (NVLI).
- Setting up of NML Model Libraries. (Upgradation of already existing Libraries)
- Quantitative & Qualitative Survey of Libraries.
- Capacity Building.
There are six Public Libraries under administrative control of Union Ministry of Culture namely:
- National Library, Kolkata;
- Central Reference Library, Kolkata;
- Central Secretariat Library, New Delhi;
- Delhi Public Library, Delhi;
- Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna
- Rampur Raza Library, Rampur.
