How to prepare Library and Information Science exams be it UGC NET, JRF, DSSSB, KVS, NVS, LIBRARIAN EXAMS or even PhD entrance examination? Here we discuss the strategy to crack any exams related to Library Science.
Hi everyone! This is Ishfaq Hussain Wani, @liscream ( Telegram group) and this website's owner. I've qualified UGC NET 2022 (December 2021-June 2022 Session, December 2022 session also). Since UGC NET has already announced UGC NET December session 2022 which is going to be held in February-March 2023 and most of the students are preparing with the same enthusiasm and determination like the qualified candidates. I've been receiving calls and texts from many students who want to prepare for UGC NET JRF but are somewhere in dilemma how and from where to start. Since it's tiresome to answer the calls and texts telling the same thing but separately, I've decided to post my strategy about UGC-CSIR NET which will be helpful for Library Science aspirants to crack any exams like UGC NET SET JRF, KVS, NVS, DSSSB, PHD OR OTHER LIBRARIAN EXAMS. Please do read the entire post and act accordingly if you want to get through the examinations.
Note: If you want to put your suggestions, feel free to use comment section under the post. Thanks.
1. Download the syllabus
This would seem quite unexpected but the first thing you have to do is download the syllabus, you can also print it out.
2. Don't be dependent on a single book
Consult books and EgyanKosh, Epgpathshala portals for PDFs
Well, there are many books available in the market but a single book can't be reliable since Library and Information Science is a vast field so you can't have such huge expectations on a single book or two.
But don't worry, here we know the code: SWAYAM, Epgpathshala and IGNOU Egyankosh are the portals you can look up according to your syllabus.
3. Make Notes:
Make short notes as much as possible and try to cover every topic of UGC NET Library and Information Science Syllabus.
If you want to make organized notes, make sure you put a gap after each topic so that you can add up information if you missed some.
4. What to study the most? (Focus Areas)
As you know Library Science Syllabus is very vast and maybe you cannot cover the whole syllabus, here are some of the topics you need to focus on more.
- Visit websites of International and national library associations, network systems etc.
- From Knowledge Organization part: Study Classification schemes like UDC, CC, DDC, cataloguing, etc
- From Management system part; study Quality Gurus.
- Internet: Study Origin and about languages and computers, emails, etc
Note: Remember the origin, development dates, edition dates, established dates, names of presidents & chairmans.
- Study Research part completely, it is scoring.
Previous Year Question Papers: Study at least 10 previous year question papers and try to solve them, you'll get the idea yourself what to prepare and what to avoid giving much importance.
5. Consistency:
C'mon? Is this a thing to even mention?
Yes, being consistent is very much important if you want to go through the examination. Make sure you study at least 4-6 hours daily and take rest accordingly.
6. Health:
Here comes the most important part which is health. You have to be physically, emotionally and mentally fit to prepare for any kind of exams. What can you do?
- Eat healthy
- Get enough sleep (6-8 hours)
- Avoid family dramas and all which halts your studies
- Avoid toxicity around you (Toxic friendships and other kinky stuff 😉)
- Get rest physically
- Meditation can help to focus
- Keep your mental health in check.
7. Revision:
Revision plays an important part to know where you stand, so one full revision is necessary and you can revise thrice or ten times if you have made short notes.
8. Tricks & Tips: (For Library and Information Science) How to Memorise so many DATES?
You might have seen that there are so many dates (Year wise, Month, Days) to remember which can be challenging. What one can do is make charts, mnemonics, rhymes, acronyms etc to memorise them.
